TAYLOR ROBINSON
SHE / HER
Taylor paints the contemporary world around her. Her choice of subject matter is an invitation to the viewer to contemplate the implications of ordinary objects, sights, and moments. Her paintings explore the principle of selection; considerations include determining a balance between simplified forms and carefully observed details. A degree of abstraction often suggests the haziness of memory, redirect the viewer’s focus, or acknowledges the artifice of the medium of paint. Inspirations include work by contemporary painters John Brosio and Joseph Lorusso.
Taylor was born and raised in Courtenay on Vancouver Island, BC, within the unceded traditional territory of the K’ómoks First Nation. She currently lives in Esquimalt, BC, which is a part of the Greater Victoria area and within the traditional territory of the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations.
Taylor Robinson first began painting while studying at North Island College School of Fine Art + Design. In 2022, she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Victoria.
