BIOGRAPHY
Taylor Robinson paints the contemporary world around her. Her choice of subject matter is an invitation to the viewer to contemplate the significance of ordinary objects, sights, and moments. Her paintings explore the principle of selection; considerations include determining a balance between simplified forms and carefully observed details. A degree of abstraction suggests the haziness of memory and the subject of focus, while acknowledging the artifice of the medium.
Taylor was born and raised in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, BC, within the unceded traditional territory of the K’ómoks First Nation. She first began painting while studying at North Island College School of Fine Art + Design before completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Victoria. She now resides in Esquimalt, the traditional territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən People at the southern tip of the island.
